Lesa Farrant
Ceramic artist Lesa Farrant scours her local beach, Port Willunga, for a range of natural and man-made debris, from which she creates her slip-cast components. These delicate porcelain casts are then constructed to produce specimens of both the indigenous and introduced plant forms of the region. For the native plant specimens, Farrant includes casts of organic material such as sticks, shell and cuttlefish bone; and for the noxious species, she collects what she describes as ‘jewel-like beach rubbish’ of brightly coloured plastic bottle lids, children’s confectionery containers and tennis balls.
